Goa govt seeks CBI takeover of Scarlett murder case

The Goa government on Tuesday issued a formal notification seeking takeover of the Scarlett Eden Keeling murder case by CBI.

PANAJI: The Goa government on Tuesday issued a formal notification seeking takeover of the Scarlett Eden Keeling murder case by CBI.

The home ministry today issued notification in pursuance of the provisions of Section 6 of Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946.

"Goa government is pleased to accord consent to the extension of powers and jurisdiction of the members of the investigation of death of British national Scarlett for the offence under Section 302, 376, 328 read with 34 of Indian Penal Code, 1860 and Section 8 (1) (2) of Goa Children's Act," the notification read.

Scarlett's bruised corpse was found on Goa's popular Anjun Beach on February 18 following which two locals were arrested for drugging, raping and leaving her to die in shallow waters.

Goa Police had earned criticism for wrongly handling the case from beginning with Scarlett's mother Fiona Mackeown laying scathing attack on the force.

"We have completed our investigations but since the case is being handed over we had not filed the chargesheet," IGP Kishan Kumar told PTI here.
