Goa govt in rough sea as ministers lock horns
While two ministers form the Congress and the NCP are at loggerheads on developmental issues, a UGDP legislator is lobbying for a Cabinet berth.
While a two ministers from the Congress and the NCP have locked horns on developmental issues, an influential United Goans Democratic Party (UGDP) legislator Atanasio Monserratte is lobbying hard for a ministerial berth. Adding to possible trouble, Congress legislator Pandurang Madkaikar, who was sacked from the Cabinet, has decided to approach Congress president Sonia Gandhi with the demand to reinstate his ministerial position. This has led to Mr Kamat rushing to Delhi to consult the high-command.
Either he remains in the government or I, is how tourism minister and NCP legislator Fransisco alias Mickky Pacheco warned publicly on Wednesday accusing Congress minister Churchill Alemao of being anti-people. Both the ministers are at logger heads over the developmental works in Benaulim constituency represented by Pacheco.
NCP had earlier demanded that Alemao be stripped off public works department (PWD) portfolio. The Sharad Pawar-led party, which has formed a front of its own comprising three of its legislators, two Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) legislators and an independent Vishwajeet Rane, has been pressing for taking away PWD department from Mr Alemao. The high command (NCP) is with me. I will take my stand within two weeks, Mr Pacheco said
Mr Pacheco has even threatened to resign from the Cabinet if the portfolio is not taken away from Mr Alemao. I will resign from the Cabinet, if the chief minister fails to strip the PWD portfolio from Alemao. Either I remain in the government or he (Alemao) remains, Mr Pacheco told reporters here.
The tourism minister alleged that Mr Alemao along with his brother Joaquim, the urban development minister in Kamats cabinet, were halting development work in his constituency.
We cannot assure the stability of the government, if our demands are not met, he said, replying to a question. Mr Pacheco alleged that the Kamat-led government lacked co-ordination amongst its stakeholders and understanding amongst ministers.
