Goa government's complaint in illegal mining scam a farce: Congress

Opposition Cong today termed as a "farce" a complaint filed by Goa Government naming some Congress politicians in the illegal mining scam.

PANAJI: Opposition Congress today termed as a "farce" a complaint filed by Goa Government with police, apparently naming some Congress politicians and state officials, in connection with the illegal mining scam.

"What the state government has done by filing a complaint in connection with the illegal mining scam with Crime Branch is mere farce. The case will not stand as supreme court is hearing the matter," alleged state unit Congress spokesperson Aleixo Lourenco.

Goa Mines and Geology department had filed an extensive complaint with the Crime Branch last month, which was converted into FIR by Crime Branch this week.

The complaint apparently mentions several Congress politicians, besides government officials in connection with the scam.

"The supreme court is hearing the matter in the context of illegal mining. Government should have waited until the apex court has finished the hearing, rather than doing a farce of filing the complaint," Lourenco said.

Justice M B Shah Commission has estimated the illegal mining scam in Goa at Rs 35,000 crore.
