Goa Congress terms MGP as 'opportunistic'
PANAJI: The Congress has termed the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) leaders as opportunists after it withdrew support to the Congress in the assembly ahead of polls.

Congress campaign manager Mauvin Godinho told PTI today that Dhavalikar brothers (both legislators of MGP)are opportunists and although they might be thinking that they would gain with their alliance with BJP, they are going to be losers.

Reacting to the statement by former minister Ramakrishna Dhavalikar who had stated that Congress was 'not corrupt' but 'few ministers in the party are corrupt', Godinho said "it is surprising that after sharing power with Congress for five years, MGP is finding the party ministers as corrupt".

Ahead of Goa assembly polls, MGP, with two MLAs, withdrew its support to Congress-led government to join hands with BJP.

Responding to a question, Godinho said that since Congress is going to win Goa polls on its own, there is no question of aligning with MGP in case of hung assembly.

Congress-NCP have signed a pre poll alliance for the forthcoming polls. Congress has already announced its first list of 22 candidates. The party has given 7 seats to NCP.
