DEHRADUN: Following the glacier burst, the Uttarakhand government immediately swung into action.

The Haridwar administration ordered evacuation of devotees from the ghats of Haridwar and Rishikesh. However, later in the evening chief secretary Om Prakash told ET that “now, it is not needed because water flow is normal”.

The state government has also rushed medical teams to the sites. Reports from Chamoli said that “30-successful bed hospital has been kept ready at Joshimath for dealing with this emergency. Also, hospitals in Srinagar, Rishikesh, Jollygrant and Dehradun are on standby.”

The reports of normal water flow in river Alaknanda came as a relief to the state government. DGP Ashok Kumar said that 13 missing persons have reported to the police.
