GK Vasan releases DPR for Tuticorin Outer Harbour development

TUTICORIN: The detailed project report of the Outer Harbour development project of VOC Port here was today released by Shipping Minister GK Vasan.

The project, announced in the 2013 union budget, would be implemented in four phases at an estimated cost of Rs.23,432 crore and facilitate a total annual capacity addition of 328 million tonnes to the port, he said.

The first phase of the project would be implemented at a cost of Rs 11,635 crore.

Vasan also commissioned the Dakshin Bharat Gateway Container Terminal (berth VIII) set up at a cost of Rs 312.23 crore.

The Container Handling Capacity of the berth is 6,00,000 TEUs.

Besides, the Minister gave away awards for 'Excellence in Traffic Performance' for 2011-12.
