GJM to hold talks with West Bengal government

The Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) has accepted the invitation for talks made by the West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, a top GJM leader said.

SILIGURI: The Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) has accepted the invitation for talks made by the West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, a top GJM leader said.

"We received the Chief Minister's invitation to us (GJM) for talks through the District Magistrate of Darjeeling," Rajesh Pandey, GJM general secretary Roshan Giri told reporters yesterday.

An emergency party meeting decided that a four member GJM delegation comprising himself, vice-president Pradip Pradhan and two central committee members Amar Lama and Anmol Prasad would attend the talks to be held on May 22, Giri said.

The GJM has been demanding a separate state of Gorkhaland for the Gorkhas comprising Darjeeling, Terai, Dooars and Siliguri.

"In this meeting we will submit the proposed map of Gorkhaland to the Chief Minister and urge him to raise a bill in the state assembly and send it to the Centre after formally passing and recommending it", Giri said.
