GJM fomenting trouble with foreign help: Mamata Banerjee

KOLKATA: Alleging that Gorkha Janmukti Morcha was receiving " foreign funding" to foment trouble in the hills, chief minister Mamata Banerjee today lashed out calling the party as "terrorists".

Her outburst came following an IRB commandant sustaining critical injuries and death of a civilian. Banerjee further alleged that she had information of GJM maintaining contact with a north-east-based terror outfit.

" This is not a political agitation . This is pure terrorism. I have information that some foreign help is reaching Morcha. Since this is a national issues, I cannot reveal the name of the country . I will only request them not to help Morcha. Moreover I was informed that they are maintaining contact with a north-eastern terror group . I will request the central government not to encourage this group by any means and cooperate with the state government , " Banerjee said at Nabanna.

Claiming that Morcha has violated the national code of conduct , the chief minister said , "They were hurling bombs with national flags in their hand . Who does that ? We are also a political party and spearheaded many movements . But this is not a political movement . There is an order of the court . The Calcutta High Court passed an order saying the bandh in Darjeeling is illegal . They have enjoyed five years in power in GTA. Now when election is coming , they resorted to violence . They have lost all credentials. "

Banerjee further added that the state is ready to talk if a conducive environment prevails . She has directed chief secretary Basudeb Banerjee to hold an all party meeting in Siliguri on June 22.
