Give tickets to clean: Amethi mob to Rahul Gandhi
Locals stopped Rahul Gandhi’s convoy at his constituency Amethi to demand that Congress allow only people with a clean image to contest polls.
Young protestors surrounded Gandhi’s convoy and raised slogans seeking tickets for clean candidates. He was in his constituency to review the status of central schemes. As per reports, though Gandhi was taken aback, he assured the protesters that only those with a clean image would be nominated by Congress in the upcoming assembly polls. Tickets for some segments in the Amethi parliamentary constituency are yet to be distributed.
Congress leaders refuted the suggestion that the obstruction of Gandhi’s convoy in Amethi was indicative of the growing support for Hazare in the traditional stronghold of the Gandhi family. “Rahul is a public leader. Those in public life do not bother about such trivial things. And even if a section of people in his constituency have raised an issue, nobody can doubt that Rahul is a leader who is always ready to listen. He will sort it out,” said party spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi.
However, if the obstruction was done with a political motive, Singhvi said, “why don’t the people who are objecting and obstructing come forward to contest the election?”
