Give status of 'cash-for-vote' scam probe, SC tells Delhi Police

The Supreme Court has directed the Delhi Police to furnish by July 15 the status report on the probe into the incident what is called the 'cash-for-vote' scam of July 2008.

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has directed the Delhi Police to furnish by July 15 the status report on the probe into the ‘cash-for-vote’ scam of July 2008.

Turning down the Centre’s assurance that the investigations into the matter will be completed in two months, the court called for a status report on the probe into a scam which had occurred during the trust vote of UPA I. “Two months is a long time. Tell us about the present status of the probe,” a bench comprising Justice Aftab Alam and Justice RM Lodha said on Thursday.

The court turned down the plea of the Centre, which said that the FIR has already been lodged in the matter case and probe will be completed within two months. Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium on behalf of Centre then assured the bench that the status report on the probe into the scam will be filed within the stipulated period in a sealed envelope. The court passed the order on a PIL filed by the former CEC JM Lyngdoh, seeking direction to the government to take action against politicians involved in the scam.
