Ghulam Ali to perform in Kolkata: TMC MP Derek O’Brien

KOLKATA: Ghazal maestro from Pakistan, Ghulam Ali would perform in Kolkata on January 12. His concert in Kolkata would be followed by his concerts in Kerala too. TMC MP Derek O’ Brien today tweeted that the Pakistani singer and his son would perform in the city on January 12.

"Ghulam Ali and his son to perform in the city on Jan 12 at Park Circus Maidan," tweeted Derek O’ Brien. Significantly, Ghulam Ali’s scheduled concert in Mumbai in October was called off following the protests organised by Shiv Sena. Later in December, Ali cancelled his concert in Delhi, though Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal claimed to have consent from the singer for performing in Delhi.

A day after Ghulam Ali’s concert in Mumbai was called off, Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee offered to host the concert of the Ghazal legend in Kolkata. "Music has no boundaries. Music is the rhythm of the heart. Ghulam Ali concert can be held in Kolkata. We will make all arrangements ", Banerjee, who was then in Bhutan, tweeted.

The police sources however said that they are yet to get any official notice or a verbal order for making arrangements for the programme. "Pete Seeger performed at a peace concert at park Circus Maidan in Kolkata in early 1960s. the music plays on..2016 January 12 Ghulam Ali," added Derek O’ Brien.
