German industrialists too were enamoured: Congress

NEW DELHI: The Congress on Wednesday asked industry captains who showered praises on Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi to be mindful of the fact that they were ���issuing character certificate��� to a chief minister whose government was ���responsible for the killing of many innocent people��� during the Gujarat riots.

The Congress also asked the industrialists to recall from history how many ���capitalists��� had warmed up to a dictator in Germany who later wreaked havoc in his own country and across the world.

���Some captains of Indian industry chose to go overboard in praising the chief minister of Gujarat. I want to remind them of what had happened way back in Germany where many capitalists were similarly attracted towards a dictator. What happened to the Germans and the rest of the world due to that dictator is now known to everyone.

Therefore, it is important that these captains of industry should understand the reality of Gujarat before issuing character certificate to a person whose kingdom is responsible for the deaths of innocent people. They should confront themselves with the statistics available and need not be misled by the false propaganda by the chief minister of Gujarat,��� Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwari said.

He then marshaled some figures to dispute the Gujarat chief minister claims on his government���s track record in development and attracting investment. When asked what Congress chief ministers have been doing to match investment meets being held by Mr Modi, the Congress spokesperson quipped; ���our chief ministers stand for development not for exhibition.���
