Senior diplomat George Raju has been appointed India's next Ambassador to Iraq, succeeding Ajay Kumar. Raju is presently serving as India's Consul General in Saint Denis.

NEW DELHI: Senior diplomat George Raju has been appointed India's next Ambassador to Iraq, succeeding Ajay Kumar.

Raju is presently serving as India's Consul General in Saint Denis, an overseas region of France in the Indian Ocean.

Raju had served in several Indian Missions including in Malawi, Cuba, Bangkok, Kazakhstan and London.

"He is expected to take up his assignment shortly," the External Affairs Ministry said.
