General elections 2014: Former Infy CFO Mohandas Pai ready with Nandan Nilekani, V Balakrishnan report card
NEW DELHI: Infosys' former chief financial officer Mohandas Pai is set to present a report card in early April on the credentials of his erstwhile colleagues Nandan Nilekani and V Balakrishnan, who are contesting the Lok Sabha polls as candidates of the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party respectively from adjoining constituencies in Bangalore.

Pai will release the report card on behalf of the Bangalore Political Action Committee (B.PAC), a grouping that he has steered along with Biocon founder Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw to "influence elections in a positive way". "We will announce our endorsements for Lok Sabha candidates in the first week of April. We are first finalising the performance reports of sitting MPs and will hold debates and discussions with citizens as part of the process," Pai, vice-president of the B.PAC and chairman of Manipal Global Education Services, told ET.

The B.PAC is in the process of generating "score cards" for all the Lok Sabha candidates contesting from the city's four constituencies. That the committee claims it is different from Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal because it is "focused on Bangalore and its governance, and on a broad range of things that affect governance, not just corruption," may not seem a good omen for Balakrishnan, who is in the fray from Bangalore Central as an AAP candidate.

But the B.PAC is not aligned to any particular party and is open to engage with anyone who shares its focus.

In its first attempt at influencing political fortunes during the Vidhan Sabha polls of 2013, the B.PAC had endorsed candidates on the basis of their priorities and strategies for fixing Bangalore's woes - backing five Congress candidates, three each from the BJP and the Lok Satta Party, two JD (S) contenders and former defence minister George Fernandes' younger brother Michael Fernandes.

While Fernandes lost, all three BJP candidates backed by the B.PAC won, as did two of the five Congress candidates it endorsed.
