General Elections 2014: Conduct free and fair polls in Amethi, says Narendra Modi to EC

AMETHI: BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi today asked the Election Commission to conduct free and fair polls in Amethi "without buckling under any pressure", alleging efforts were being made to buy voters.

"The market is running high in Amethi and vehicles filled with cash have already left Delhi. The goods that were sold for Rs 5,000, will be sold for Rs 25,000. But people who have left from Delhi should realise that people of Amethi are very self-respecting," he said.

Modi was addressing a rally here to seek votes for party candidate Smriti Irani.

"For 40 years, they loved you (the Gandhi family) and now they have woken up. Now no power can help buy these people," he said, asking the Election Commission to conduct impartial polls there "without buckling under any pressure".

Amethi constituency in Uttar Pradesh, from where Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi is the sitting MP, will go to polls on May 7 in the penultimate phase of Lok Sabha polling.
