Gautam Navlakha detained at Srinagar airport

Human rights activist Gautam Navlakha was on Saturday detained at the Srinagar airport by police. Gautam and his companion were forced to buy return tickets to Delhi for Sunday, a person close to him said.

SRINAGAR: Human rights activist Gautam Navlakha was on Saturday detained at the Srinagar airport by police. Gautam and his companion were forced to buy return tickets to Delhi for Sunday, a person close to him said.

Till then, he will remain in police custody, the person said. Earlier in the day, Navlakha told ET on Sunday on the phone: "I am at the Srinagar airport and the J&K police have arrested me."

"They don’t want me to enter Kashmir for fear of disrupting public life," he said. Kuldip Khoda, DGP of Jammu and Kashmir Police, didn’t respond to repeated calls on his cellphone.
