Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president DK Shivakumar on Wednesday took potshots at Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying he cut LPG cylinder prices by ₹200 apiece due to the pressure from the Congress' guarantee schemes his state was implementing.

Hours before Congress leader Rahul Gandhi rolled out the Gruha Lakshmi scheme involving a monthly payout of₹2,000 per woman head of a family, Shivakumar, said the monthly transfer of cash under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme included ₹500 to soften the blow due to the increase in prices of LPG cylinders.

Taking a dig at the PM, Shivakumar asked why the BJP was offering ₹1,500 to families in MPif he believed "freebies" bankrupted governments.
