Visitors and locals in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's constituency would soon be able to view the famous Ganga Aarti at Varanasi ghats and the Pooja at the Kashi Vishwanath temple livestreamed at various important spots of the city on LED screens, a step that the state government believes would be a "value addition" to the transformed city.

The idea is said to have caught the fancy of the Prime Minister after complaints were received that many were unable to properly witness the evening Aarti at the ghats and at Kashi Vishwanath temple due to huge crowds. The proposal is now to cover the ghats and the temple premises with cameras and broadcast the liveproceedings on large LED screens to be installed within three months at over a dozen important spots like the revamped Manduadih and Cantt Railway stations, other important ghats like Tulsi Ghat and Samne Ghat and various other major road intersections in the Varanasi city.

Aarti is conducted twice daily at the Dashashwaedh Ghat and Assi Ghat, seeing presence of Indian and foreign visitors who invariably also visit the Kashi Vishwanth temple. The new IT interventions are designed with a view to complement to the participation of the citizens in the ritual ceremonies.
