CHENNAI : Ganesh Chaturthi was celebrated all over Tamil Nadu with religious fervour on Wednesday. People bought clay idols of Lord Ganesh from roadside vendors and offered poojas in their houses besides thronging temples to offer prayers.

The vendors quoted higher price for the idols ranging from Rs 30 to Rs 40 as against Rs 20-30 last year on the plea that they had to pay more for the clay.

Fruit and flower vendors had a roaring business right from the morning. Giant sized Ganesh idols were kept in artistically decorated 'mandapams' in several areas of the city and devotees offered worship at these places.

These idols would be taken in a procession and immersed in the sea on Sunday. Tight security had been made throughout the state, police said.
