Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) spokesperson Sachin Sawant said that the party had cleared names of Gadgil and Kawade, which were approved by Governor K Sankaranarayanan.
Out of total 12 vacancies from the Governor's quota, six each are from Congress and NCP.
Gadgil (55), who hails from Pune, is the son of veteran Congress leader late V N Gadgil and grandson of freedom fighter and Congressman Kakasaheb Gadgil.
Educated in the USA, Gadgil is a post graduate in Architecture and Urban Development. His book "Chimajiappa Punekar" has won him the Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad award.
Gadgil is also on the AICC media panel, besides being a spokesman of the state Congress.
When contacted, Gadgil said he was informed about his nomination by Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan last night and he would take oath on Wednesday.
A firebrand Dalit leader, Kawade is the founder president of Peoples Republican Party. He was a former MP from Chimur Lok Sabha constituency in 12th Lok Sabha during 1998-99.
