Fuel price hike:Motor workers to go on strike on Feb 17

Motor workers affiliated to different trade unions in Kerala have called a state-wide strike from February 17, to protest the hike in prices of petrol and diesel.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Motor workers affiliated to different trade unions in Kerala have called a state-wide strike from February 17, to protest the hike in prices of petrol and diesel.

The dawn-to-dusk strike is being sponsored by the Joint Action Council of unions, which includes major central trade unions like CITU, AITUC and BMS.

The unions wanted the Centre to rollback the latest hike in fuel prices, saying the increase would not only affect the transport industry but the workers as well, the joint council leaders said in a statement.

Emergency services like milk and newspaper vehicles, amublances and marriage parties had been exempted from the strike.
