Fresh eviction orders on 16 former UPA ministers

NEW DELHI: The urban development ministry has ordered 16 former UPA ministers, who are no more members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, to vacate their government accommodation.

The quasi-judicial proceedings following the eviction notices issued earlier concluded on Thursday. Sources said about half a dozen former ministers including Giriaja Vyas, Krishna Tirath, Kapil Sibal, Ajit Singh, Farooq Abdullah and Pallam Raju either represented their cases before the quasi-judicial authority or sent their representatives. Majority of them showed "medical ground" to seek more time to vacate their bungalows. The rest of them sought relaxation until they make alternative arrangements.

Some former ministers including Kapil Sibal have informed that they have vacated the bungalows and only the formalities like obtaining vacation certificates remained.

While earlier the UD ministry had taken out a list of overstaying former ministers including the sitting MPs, officials said no action is being initiated against them. "They need to get fresh accommodation from their respective House pools. Until that happens we cannot ask them to vacate their present bungalows," a source said.
