Freedom fighter Sukhbir Singh passes away in UP

He was 99. His mortal remains were consigned to the flames today in presence of social activists and eminent citizens.

MUZAFFARNAGAR: Veteran freedom fighter Sukhbir Singh died at his native town Ailum in Shamli district here due to old age-related problems.

He was 99. His mortal remains were consigned to the flames today in presence of social activists and eminent citizens.

According to his nephew Jaikumar, he had actively participated in the Quit India movement and in 1942 when he was a student of Rishikul college in Haridwar he had hoisted the tricolour at 'Har ki Pauri' following which he was arrested.

He is survived by his sons Satlal Singh and Satendra Lanwar.
