Free rides for women in DTC Buses from Oct 29: Kejriwal

October 29 is the day of Bhai Dooj and that will be my gift to my sisters in Delhi, says Kejriwal.

NEW DELHI: Women will be able to travel free on Delhi government buses from October 29, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Thursday.

“October 29 is the day of Bhai Dooj and that will be my gift to my sisters in Delhi. Meanwhile, I want to assure them that we are working hard towards making metro rides free for women in the city too,” Kejriwal said in an address in north Delhi’s Chhatrasal stadium on Independence Day. Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi had approved a proposal on free rides for women in buses and the Delhi Metro two months ago. While bus operations under the Delhi Transport Corporation fall within the city government’s jurisdiction, the metro system is administered jointly by the Delhi and the central governments. The matter of free rides on the Delhi Metro for women is being examined by the fare fixation committee.
