Senior citizens in Delhi can now take two night-three day pilgrimage fully funded by the Delhi government every year. Delhi government on Monday approved the Mukhyamantri Tirth Yatra Yojana under which Delhi residents aged 60 years and above can avail a two night-three day pilgrimage entirely funded by the state government.

Initially scheme is available on five initial routes. More routes are likely be added later:

• Delhi-Mathura-Vrindavan-Agra-Fatehpur Sikri-Delhi
• Delhi-Haridwar-Rishikesh-Neelkanth-Delhi
• Delhi-Ajmer-Pushkar-Delhi
• Delhi-Amritsar-Wagah Border-Anandpur Sahib-Delhi
• Delhi-Vaishno Devi-Jammu-Delhi.

Here is how to avail the scheme:

• Application can be filled online through of office of divisional commissioner, MLA's office or office of Tirth Yatra Committee
• The selection of the pilgrims would be through luck draw. A total of 77,000 residents, 1,100 senior citizens from each of the 70 assembly constituencies in Delhi,will be selected every year.
• One adult attendant will be allowed to accompany the senior citizens, and that person’s expenses will also be borne by the government.
• The travel will be in air-conditioned coaches of Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation buses, and full expense of the trip will be borne by the government.
• Citizens would be covered with an insurance of Rs 1 lakh each.
• Employees of central/state/local government or autonomous bodies can't avail the scheme .
