NEW DELHI: French President Francois Hollande's visit next month as chief guest of Republic Day celebrations will also provide an opportunity for the two countries to "follow on" from the Paris climate meet, where India played a "decisive" role, the French Embassy said today.

Announcing Hollande's visit, the Embassy here issued a release saying he will travel to India on January 26 on a state visit, where he will be the Chief Guest of Republic Day celebrations.

"This visit will also follow on from the Paris Climate Conference, at which India played a decisive role in reaching an ambitious agreement," the release said.

The conference of parties ( CoP21) which was held in Paris recently witnessed a "historic" agreement adopted by 196 nations to tackle the challenge of climate change after countries like India and China were persuaded by the developed countries including the US that their development interests have been taken care in the accord.
