A huge bomb blast has hit near a hospital and gunfire was heard on the streets of a northwestern Pakistani town, police said, the forth such attack in the region Thursday.

PESHAWAR: A huge bomb blast has hit near a hospital and gunfire was heard on the streets of a northwestern Pakistani town, police said, the forth such attack in the region on Thursday.

Local police official Naimutullah Khan said the attack happened in Dera Ismail Khan, a city about 300 kilometres (186 miles) south of the northwest capital Peshawar, where three blasts Thursday killed at least 10 people.

"A huge bomb blast took place near a hospital in Dera Ismail Khan city," said Khan. "We are rushing towards the blast site."

He said there were reports of gunfire in the area, but there was no word yet on casualties from the attack.
