Four top maoists surrender in Bengal

Chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday asked the villagers of Maoist-infested Jangalmahal not to get scared of the red ultras.

KOLKATA: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday asked the villagers of Maoist-infested Jangalmahal not to get scared of the red ultras and help her government to carry out development activities in the region.

Banerjee's appeal to the villagers came after four hard-core Maoist activists - Lambodar Majhi, Bhajahari Mahato, Sukhdeb Mahato and Karan Kaibarttya - surrendered before her at the Jhargram stadium where the chief minister was addressing a youth festival on Thursday.

This is for the first time in Jangalmahal that hard-core red ultras surrendered before the chief minister ever since the Maoists had established their stronghold in the region in 2004.
