RAMESWARAM: Four fishermen from here were apprehended today near Katchatheevu by Sri Lankan Navy personnel who also allegedly damaged 50 boats.

Local fishermen's association President T Sesuraja said the Indian fishermen had been taken to Kankesanthurai in northern Sri Lanka along with their boats.

A group of fishermen from this island were fishing near Katchatheevu when the Lankan navalmen, who came in eight boats, attacked them. Windscreens of 50 boats were damaged. They later detained the four fishermen, he charged.

Fisherman Edison, whose boat was among those damaged in the alleged attack by the island nation's naval personnel, lodged a complaint with the Costal Marine Police.

Meanwhile, the Coastal Marine police today registered a case against Sri Lankan Navy for damaging the boat of a person identified ad Pathian in midsea on June 19 last.

Cases under IPC for attack and damaging properties were registered on a complaint from Pathian, who claimed the Sri Lankan navalmen deliberately collided their vessel against his boat and damaged it.
