Four scrap dealers booked for duty evasion

Officials of Value-Added Tax (VAT) department have booked four scrap dealers for allegedly evading duty amounting to Rs 2 crore, police said on Saturday.

RAJKOT: Officials of Value-Added Tax (VAT) department have booked four scrap dealers for allegedly evading duty amounting to Rs 2 crore, police said on Saturday.

The Junagadh-based dealers were found to be evading duty when the department carried out searches at 12 scrap firms, they said.

It was discovered that these scrap dealers used to issue bills by the names of non-existing companies to escape taxes.

A complaint has been filed against the erring dealers while three to four more may also be booked once the search is over, said the police.

No arrest has been made so far, they added.
