Four militants killed in Assam

Four militants were killed in two different encounters in Assam.

GUWAHATI: Four militants, three of them belonging to the suspected National Socialist Council of Nagalim-IM (NSCN-IM) and one belonging to the faction of the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB) were killed in two different encounters in Assam.

Police sources said that three suspected NSCN-IM cadres were killed in Puronipuri Chandmari under Laluk police station in Lakhimpur district. "It is believed that the militants were on an extortion drive."
Security forces recovered three 9 mm pistols, 26 live rounds of ammunition, eight fired cases, 2 mobile phones, 3 sim cards and some documents.

In Guwahati, on Monday, a suspected NDFB militant was killed and another injured. Police sources added that a joint team of police and army launched an operation in a hill along Assam-Meghalaya border.

Four militants were hiding inside a house hurled a grenade at the security men but it did not explode. Two other militants managed to flee. Police sources informed that they were planning to carry out subversive activities prior to Independence Day.
