The four accused acquitted in the Best Bakery case arrived in the city today and reunited with their family members here.

VADODARA: The four accused acquitted in the Best Bakery case arrived in the city today and reunited with their family members here.

The four who came here, namely, Rajubhai Baria, Pankaj Gosai, Suresh alias Lalo Vasava and Shailesh Tadvi refused to talk the media waiting outside their houses.

Their family members said that they were happy on their release in the case.

The Bombay High Court on July 9 had acquitted five accused while upholding the conviction of four in the 2002 Best Bakery case.

However, there was no information available about Jagdish Rajput who was also acquitted in the case.

Fourteen people in the Best Bakery premises in the city were burnt alive on March 1, 2002 during the post-Godhra riots.

In 2004, rapping the Gujarat government for its handling of the case in the light of acquittals, the Supreme Court ordered a retrial and transferred the case to Mumbai.
