VIJAYAWADA: Former Mayor of the district Tadi Shakuntala today said that she has joined the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy's camp by resigning from Congress party.

She met Jagan Mohan Reddy at Challapalli village in Krishna district while he was visiting the cyclone-affected by villages to interact with the farmers who suffered losses.

"The existing Congress leadership may not serve people like the former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. People have confidence on Jagan Mohan Reddy," Shakuntala told PTI over phone.

The popular welfare scheme introduced by YSR can only be implemented by his son, she added.

Shakuntala started her political career from CPI and served as Vijayawada Mayor in 2006, representing CPI. Later she resigned from the party and joined Congress before 2009 general elections.

Besides Shakuntala, a number of municipal corporators from Nuzivid Municipality announced their resignations from Congress to join Jagan's camp.
