Former RS MP Chandan Mitra likely to join Trinamool Congress

Apart from Mitra, TMC sources said, there will be many new faces from Congress also who will join Banerjee on July 21.

Former RS MP Chandan Mitra quits BJP, likely to join TMC
Amid the news of BJP’s former Rajya Sabha MP Chandan Mitra submitting his resignation to BJP national president Amit Shah, now there is a buzz in the political corners that Mitra will be joining Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress on July 21, the Martyr’s day. Trinamool Congress organises annual mega rally to commemorate the 1993 Kolkata firing on this day.

Even though Chandan Mitra denied comment on the issue, a senior MP of TMC confirmed that Mitra will be there on the stage with Banerjee on July 21.

The martyr’s day rally is being seen as the election kick off for Mamata Banerjee. She is expected to give her final election message to the people and her party members on the day.


Mitra, sources in BJP said was not happy on several internal issues in the party and that he had also protested against several issues. However, he decided to resign from the party later. Mitra began his career as a journalist and he is the editor of Pioneer newspaper in Delhi.

Apart from Mitra, TMC sources said, there will be many new faces from Congress also who will join Banerjee on July 21.
