Former PM Dr Manmohan Singh now stable, under care at AIIMS
In 2009, the then 76-year-old prime minister of India was operated by a team of doctors led by cardiovascular thoracic surgeon and vice-chairman of Asian Heart Institute, Dr Ramakanta Panda.
The senior Congress leader is being investigated to rule out other causes of fever, sources informed. He was admitted to AIIMS on Sunday following chest pain.
In 2009, the then 76-year-old prime minister of India was operated by a team of doctors led by cardiovascular thoracic surgeon and vice-chairman of Asian Heart Institute, Dr Ramakanta Panda. He was operated for a redo cardiac bypass surgery. Following the surgery, Dr Singh has been living an active and healthy life.
Five bypasses were performed on Singh, who had already undergone a bypass surgery earlier in 1990, and later a stenting procedure in 2004.
Manmohan Singh is a senior leader of the opposition Congress and currently represents Rajasthan in the Upper House of Parliament. He was the prime minister between 2004 and 2014.
