Jagannath was elected as MLA four times, twice as Lok Sabha member from Sidhi and once as Rajya Sabha member.

BHOPAL: Former Madhya Pradesh minister and senior BJP leader Jagannath Singh passed away here today after prolonged illness.

Singh, 69, suffered a brain hemorrhage few days back and was undergoing treatment in Bansal Hospital here, where he breathed his last, his family said.

He is survived by wife, three sons and a daughter, they said.

Singh had served as Labour Minister during 2008-2013 in the BJP government. He was elected as MLA four times, twice as Lok Sabha member from Sidhi and once as Rajya Sabha member.

He was first elected as an MLA in 1977 from Devsar.

His mortal remains were brought to the BJP office where large number of BJP workers led by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan paid tributes.

Later in the day, his body will be taken to his ancestral village Chitrangi (Singrauli district) in a special plane for the last rites.
