Former Union minister Sharad Yadav passes away at 75
Former JD-U President and Union Minister Sharad Yadav passed away at the age of 75 on Thursday, at a hospital in Gurugram. The news was confirmed by his daughter through a Facebook post.

Yadav who had launched his own party Loktantrik Janata Dal, merged with Lalu Yadav's outfit RJD in March 2020 which he said was the "first step towards a united opposition".

He was a former union minister in various governments.



He was a politician from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) party. He had been elected to Lok Sabha seven times and to the Rajya Sabha thrice from JD(U). He was the first national president of Janata Dal (United) since its formation in 2003 till year 2016.

Sharad Yadav had formed Loktantrik Janata Dal in 2018 miffed with Janata Dal (United) returning to an alliance with the BJP in Bihar.

He was disqualified from Rajya Sabha and removed from party leadership positions for engaging in anti-party activities.
