Former foreign minister Sushma Swaraj no more; tributes pour in from political leaders

​Moments after the news of her sad demise, reactions poured in from across the political spectrum.

Sushma Swaraj served as the Minister of External Affairs of India from 26 May 2014 to 30 May 2019.
After suffering a cardiac arrest, former foreign minister and BJP stalwart Sushma Swaraj passed away in Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences late this evening. Swaraj was rushed to the hospital by her family around 9.50 pm.

She had not been keeping well lately, which is why she had not contested the recently held Lok Sabha election and opted out of Narendra Modi's new government. Former foreign secretary S. Jaishankar took over as the new External Affairs Minister.

Moments after the news of her sad demise, tributes poured in from across the political spectrum. Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a series of tweets expressed sadness over the demise of Sushma Swaraj.





Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep S Puri expressed condolences to Sushma's family & friends.

Congress also tweeted after Sushma Swaraj passed away at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.


Earlier today, Sushma Swaraj had tweeted congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the passage of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation bill.

MNS leader Aditya Thackeray in his condolence message expressed how her demise will be a big loss to the nation.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi also expressed his shock over Sushma's demise.
