Former CPI(M) MP Amitava Nandy passes away

Former CPI(M) MP Amitava Nandy today passed away after a prolonged illness due to pancreatic cancer.

KOLKATA: Former CPI(M) MP Amitava Nandy today passed away after a prolonged illness due to pancreatic cancer, a CPI(M) leader said.

"Today Amitava Nandy passed away at the age of 71. He was suffering from cancer in pancreas. He will be cremated tomorrow," CPI(M) state committee member Nepaldeb Bhattacharya said.

Nandy, a former state committee member of CPI(M), was MP from Dum Dum Lok Sabha constituency from 2004-09. He lost to Trinamool Congress's Saugata Roy in 2009.

Nandy was presently a member of CPI(M) north 24 Parganas district secretariat.
