Former BJP ideologue demands arrest of J&K CM Mufti Sayeed & his trial for treason

BENGALURU: Former BJP ideologue and convenor of the Rashtriya Swabhiman Andolan, KN Govindacharya, has demanded that the BJP-led Central government dismiss the coalition BJP-PDP government in Jammu and Kashmir, arrest chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and try him for treason. This, even as he has joined activist Anna Hazare in protests against Central government's Land Acquisition Ordinance.

Once a powerful ideologue of the BJP, Govindacharya heading the Rashtriya Swabhiman Andolan, explains his locus standi on speaking against a Sangh Parivar-affiliate led government on important policy isues. "I speak on behalf of a samanya (ordinary) karyakarta, who holds the interest of the organisation as secondary and national interest as primary. More than 90% of the cadre are like that. They respect their leaders but are bewildered and perplexed by certain actions which go against our ideological underpinnings. These are also the people who are questioned by ordinary voters and supporters of the government on the ground, not the leaders," he told ET.

"Meri sarkar, BJP ki sarkaar bolne waalon ko yeh samajhna chahiye ki yeh raashtra ki sarkar hai (those terming the government as 'mine' or 'BJP' should understand that this is the government of the country)," he said.

"Those running the government should understand that they haven't been put in that position to fulfill the political ambitions of the party," he said. The events in Jammu and Kashmir, he says have reached a pass where by August 15, there will be no one to raise the Indian tri-color, and that the BJP in its desire to be part of the gov ernment in Jammu and Kashmir was blind to national interest. "The Mufti government should be dismissed, he should be arrested and tried for treason for freeing terrorists," he added.

"Earlier, there were some Hindus in the Valley, now even that is not the case.It will be worse than the time of Sheikh Abdullah," he added.
