Former Bihar minister Ramashray Sahni's son Rajiv was lynched and his accomplice injured by a mob for allegedly stealing a vehicle in Samastipur district.

SAMASTIPUR: Former Bihar minister Ramashray Sahni's son Rajiv was lynched and his accomplice injured by a mob for allegedly stealing a vehicle in Samastipur district.

The incident took place on Saturday night when 37-year-old Rajiv and his accomplice Rajaram Kewat went to Asimchak village allegedly to steal a pickup van, superintendent of police Babu Ram said.

A mob overpowered the two and beat them resulting in the death of Rajiv. Kewat sustained severe injuries and is in an unconscious state in a hospital, Ram said.

Rajiv had been arrested and jailed for similar crimes in the past, the SP said, adding that he was a member of an organized gang of vehicle lifters the details of which are under investigation.

Ramashray Sahni, who was the animal husbandry ministry in the erstwhile RJD government and is presently its district unit president, said he would speak on the incident after identifying the body.
