KATHMANDU: Foreign Secretary Shiv Shanker Menon will arrive in Nepal on Saturday on a two-day visit, where he will hold parleys with Nepalese leaders including Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala. Issues pertaining to the current political situation in Nepal, the Terai problem, the upcoming Constituent Assembly polls, security and bilateral cooperation are likely to figure during Menon's meetings with senior leaders here, an Indian Embassy spokesman said.

Menon will be accompanied by Joint Secretary Preeti Sharan. The diplomats will also hold bilateral talks with Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitoula, Foreign Minister Sahana Pradhan and top leaders of the major parties including CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal and Nepali Congress (Democratic) president Sher Bahadur Deuba, the embassy official said.

Menon's visit to Nepal is considered significant by political analysts especially in the wake of assembly polls in November to decide the fate of monarchy as well as to draft the new constitution despite the Maoists' threats to launch fresh agitation by quitting the government.
