Foreign Secretary to visit Nepal
Foreign Secretary Shiv Shanker Menon will arrive in Nepal on Saturday on a two-day visit, where he will hold parleys with Nepalese leaders including Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala.
Menon will be accompanied by Joint Secretary Preeti Sharan. The diplomats will also hold bilateral talks with Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitoula, Foreign Minister Sahana Pradhan and top leaders of the major parties including CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal and Nepali Congress (Democratic) president Sher Bahadur Deuba, the embassy official said.
Menon's visit to Nepal is considered significant by political analysts especially in the wake of assembly polls in November to decide the fate of monarchy as well as to draft the new constitution despite the Maoists' threats to launch fresh agitation by quitting the government.
