'For every Mukherjee scud, there are a dozen Pakistani duds'
NEW DELHI: Pakistan media has derided their government for ineffective diplomatic initiatives. In contrast, Indias diplomatic offensive is seen as a move to muster world support and to manage the impact in the event of an India-Pakistan war.

For every Mukherjee scud, there are a dozen Pakistani duds, writes political economist Mosharraf Zaidi in The News on Wednesday, referring to Pranab Mukherjees meeting over 100 Indian ambassadors summoned from around the world to brief them on the subcontinent situation. Its editorial, too, sees the meet as an important strategic tool. The pressure on Pakistan continues to mount, it says.

India will soon launch a massive diplomatic offensive against Pakistan. All its ambassadors and high commissioners have been called to New Delhi to prepare a strategy to malign Pakistan. The main target of this offensive will be Pakistans nuclear assets, because it wants to deprive this country of its nuclear capability, adds analyst Mir Jamilur Rahman who also wants India to learn to say please and stop ordering Pakistan around.

Defence analyst Shireen Mazari says, The unscheduled envoys conference can only have been called to contain the diplomatic fallout of such strikes. Interestingly, Mazari finds US military chief, Admiral Mike Mullens second visit to Islamabad this month a move to persuade Pakistan to allow India to attack certain targets within the country. In the meantime, Indias targeted strike capabilities have been pooh-poohed. Let us examine whether India can actually carry out these threats, writes S M Hali in a detailed analysis in The Nation and finds Pakistan far better equipped.
