Food Security Scheme will be replaced with Universal Public Distribution System: AIADMK
CHENNAI: Slamming the recently enacted Food Bill of the UPA as "half-baked," AIADMK said in its manifesto that it would take measures to replace it with a Universal Public Distribution System as followed in Tamil Nadu across the country if it became part of the next government at the Centre.

All rice card holders in Tamil Nadu were getting rice free of cost, and other items in a subsidised price- palmolein Rs 25 per litre, toor dal Rs 30 per kg, urad dal Rs 30 per kg and sugar Rs 13.50 a kilo- AIADMK said its manifesto, which was released today.

Stating that UPDS in Tamil Nadu guaranteed total food security for the people, it said "on the contrary, the Food Security scheme introduced by the Centre does not provide food security."

"The AIADMK will take measures to replace the half-baked food security scheme of the government of India with a Universal Public Distribution System, which will benefit all the people of the States, which are already implementing the Universal Public Distribution System."
