Food security bill to be made a success in Uttarakhand: Yashpal Arya

DEHRADUN: Claiming that the Food Security Bill will improve the lives of over 82 crore people across the country, the ruling Congress in Uttarakhand has said it will make all efforts to ensure success of the bill in the state.

"The historic Food Security Bill will change the lives of over 82 crore people in India for the better and all efforts will be made by the state government to make it a grand success in Uttarakhand," Pradesh Congress chief Yashpal Arya said on his return here from a meeting convened by AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on Saturday.

Arya, who had gone to attend the meeting along with state Congress General Secretary Vijay Sarasvat and party spokesman Dhirendra Pratap, said Congress was committed to rooting out the menace of hunger from the country.

Arya, who is also the state Disaster Management Minister, criticised the "false, baseless and politically motivated" propaganda launched by the opposition against the ongoing rescue and relief operations in the far-flung hilly areas of the state, saying BJP's attempts of making political capital out of the natural calamity would never succeed.

BJP leader Uma Bharti had recently accused the state government of dealing with the aftermath of the natural calamity in a slip-shod manner.

Arya said Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Sonia Gandhi are likely to visit the disaster-affected areas of the state next month.
