Folk singer strings together a force sans AIADMK on prohibition plank in Tamil Nadu
“We are meeting political leaders only to strengthen our resolve to curb the social evil of alcohol in the state by making this a people’s movement,” the spokesperson said.

Kovan is on a mission to string together a chain of political parties by talking to the leaders and asking them to support a massive movement against alcohol and for prohibition in the state. A spokesperson for the People’s art and literature association told ET “We have asked all the political leaders we have been meeting to support a massive public meeting in the second week of December in Tamil Nadu.”
The spokesperson said that their organisation is keen not to make this an election issue. “We are meeting political leaders only to strengthen our resolve to curb the social evil of alcohol in the state by making this a people’s movement,” the spokesperson said.
Kovan along with other members of his association met DMK chief M Karunanidhi at his residence today and they have been assured of DMK’s support for the rally they plan to organise. They have also met leaders including Vaiko (MDMK), Thirumavalavan (VCK), G Ramakrshnan (CPM), Mutharasan (CPI) and EVKS Elangovan (TNCC).
“We are meeting all parties apart from the ruling AIADMK and those that align with the cause of prohibition. This will become a massive social movement only if all political parties and people’s organisation stand together and fight it,” the spokesperson added.
