FM positive to meet '06-07 deficit target

Finance Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram said on Tuesday the government would meet the 2006-07 fiscal deficit target of 3.8 per cent of gross domestic product.

NEW DELHI: Country's Finance Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram said on Tuesday the government would meet the 2006-07 fiscal deficit target of 3.8 per cent of gross domestic product.

"We should be able to be within our target," Chidambaram said when asked if the government would hit the fiscal target given huge spending requirements.
