NAMAKKAL (TN): Election officials today seized Rs 15 lakh unaccounted cash from three jaggery merchants travelling by a private bus in Trichengode assembly constituency in the district.

The cash was found when officials intercepted the bus proceeding to Jederpalayam and checked the passengers, police said.

The merchants said they were on their way to procure jaggery in shandy but as they could not produce any doccument in support of their claim, the flying squad seized the amount, police said.

A report from Porayar in Nagapattinam District said Rs 4.5 lakh unaccounted cash was seized from a passenger onboard a Bengaluru-bound bus last night near Kuttalam in Tarangambadi taluk.

The amount was handed over to Assistant Returning Officer for Poompuhar Constituency Raghavan, flying squad officer Pransua said.
