GUWAHATI: The swelling Brahmaputra and its tributaries have affected more than 12 lakhs in 13 districts of Assam. But a bright sunny Thursday helped improve the flood scene in many places. Assam is reeling under the third wave of floods and 17 are dead. According to state officials, North Lakhimpur, Majuli, Dhakuwakhana, Rangia, Morigaon and Naogaon areas are the worst hit by floods.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi has directed officials to prepare a special action plan for flood mitigation and erosion control in Majuli subdivision. Sources said about 90% people in the subdivision have been affected. Power supply has also been disrupted. The state has lined up a Rs 700 crore calamity relief fund.
