Flood situation worsened in the eastern region of Uttar Pradesh with the water level in major rivers witnessing a rising trend even as two fresh rain related deaths were reported in the state taking the toll this season to 183.

LUCKNOW: Flood situation worsened in the eastern region of Uttar Pradesh with the water level in major rivers witnessing a rising trend even as two fresh rain related deaths were reported in the state taking the toll this season to 183.
The two deaths were reported from Bahraich and Lakhimpur- Kheri, official reports here said.
While Ganga was rising at Mirzapur, Varanasi and Ghazipur districts, Ghagra was also rising at Ayodhya and Rapti's level was increasing in Balrampur and other areas, reports said.
Over 2,300 villages were either partially or fully affected by the flood fury mainly in the eastern region of the state, official sources here said.
About five lakh hectares of land in 22 districts had been inundated by flood waters, they said.
Army had been assisting civil administration in the flood-affected Gorakhpur and Barabanki districts while PAC personnel were pressed into service in Shravasti, Gonda, Siddharth Nagar, Maharajganj and Baharaich.
The government has announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs 1.5 lakh each to those killed in flood-related incidents.
